China Film adds green screen stage

China Film Group Corporation 中國電影集團公司 has opened a new green screen studio within its Huairou production base near Beijing.

China Film Virtual Stage (CFVS) is understood to be the first virtual production stage of its kind in China. Using equipment from Lightcraft Technology, the stage provides real-time pre-visualisation of final shots to its clients, allowing film-makers to see both the live action and CGI elements in context, during the shooting.

The facility covers 800m² and is operated by Digital Production branch of the studio, previously known as Hualong Digital Film Production Company.

“It has been a while since we first wanted to use real-time graphics for visual effects shooting. We had tried to use virtual set technology to do fast plate layout for explosion scenes in a war movie back in 2004,” said in a statement provided by Lightcraft.

China Film Studio has 16 sound stages, ranging in size from 800m² to 5000m² and was opened in 2008.
